When the seasons change I am all about layering, this means I can add or peel off layers and feel comfortable while also looking stylish. I also love to wear layers to create balance and proportion to my plus size curves.
One of my favourite layers to add is a cape or kimono. They are floaty and fun but
also functional. If you don’t like restrictive layers (like me) then throw a cape over
your outfit and feel pulled together while also feeling freedom of movement.
This season we have two in our collection, the Lucy and the Celeste. The Lucy is fun and colourful while the Celeste is in everybody’s favourite colour, black. Celeste is your work horse piece and an essential basic that will elevate your outfit time and
Benefits of a cape
Wanna know something else I love about a cape? They always fit! Yup, season after season no matter how much my body shape changes my capes have got my back
(literally covered). Capes love curves!
With the trend of bell sleeves and boho sleeves a jacket can be much harder to layer, there is nothing more frustrating than having a sleeve all bunched up under your sleeve jacket…am I right?! Choosing a cape or kimono to compliment your outfit is the answer. I also prefer a cape or kimono as jackets just feel so bloody tight on my curves and almost never fit my large upper arms.
How to layer
Of course, it’s also a good idea to make sure they what’s ‘under’ the cape is fabulous too because with fluctuations of temperatures outside and hormonal temperatures rising in the inside we ladies like to peel our layers throughout the day (and night).
At Neon Cherry we have the perfect layering pieces, try our range of tees and tanks, and let’s not forget how good a cape looks with a dress. The Lucy kimono was designed to wear back with the , the Pippa dress and the Stella pants in blue.
There’s lots of fun to be had wearing a cape and you really can personalise your
look. I also love to see a cape belted, pin a corner with a favourite brooch or tuck a corner into your waistband to create some interest too.
Have fun learning to layer!
